Art of the Huichol

In the six villages of the Huichol indians of Mexico artisans create intricate two- and three-dimensional  art pieces from wood, feathers, yarn, beads and shells. Their art depicts cultural and mythic stories and characters. We are showing pieces from the collection of Dale Gress of Yakima along with beaded sculptures from our personal collection.

YAKIMA,CANYON LANDS

Canyon Land I
Please join us Friday May13 for the opening reception of this wonderful exhibit.
5:30 to 8 Pm

Marguerite Olson Fletcher learned to draw and paint from instructors in the Wapato School District and will always credit Beverly Dalrymple and Charles Smith  for
launching her vocation as a painter. Marguerite grew up on her parents’ fruit ranch in the Lower Valley. She studied art at Stanford University and with her husband, Bob Fletcher, raised their two daughters, establishing their home and work in Palo Alto, California.

The Yakima Valley remains an enduring and fundamental source for Marguerite’s artwork. She returns every year for personal renewal. She draws inspiration from the orchards and farming valleys; and even more essentially from the sagebrush hills and basalt columned canyons. This exhibition is dedicated to those canyons and arid hillsides.
The eleven acrylic on silk compositions are sense/memory improvisations; each one recalls specific colors, texture, fragrance, and space of Yakima, Ahtanum, Umptanum, Cowiche, and beyond.

Canyon Lands II

Canyon Land III

Tom Hoffman is Marguerite's guest artist and will have several watercolors of our valley.
